Rain festival showcases glimpses of Kodava culture and tradition

Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan, ZP members, Kodava Sahithya Academy President and villagers from in and around  Mukkodlu  celebrated the Rain Festival( Male Namme) in the fields of H.S.  Thimmaiah,  by taking part in traditional activities like a slush race, tug of war and a  dance competition set to  traditional Kodava music. The guests took part in  ploughing the field, transplanting paddy and various other activities connected to  paddy sowing.

The namme was  organised by the  Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy with an intent to preserve and propagate Kodava festivals and traditions.

Appachu Ranjan said that  a sum of Rs. 45 lakhs was released to the Kodava Sahithya Academy for  its activities.  He requested  the Kodavas to join hands with the Academy in preserving the Kodava language, culture,  and traditions.

Karnataka Kodava Academy President Rani Machaiah said that additional grants have been  released and that  the academy will bring out a CD show casing  the rich Kodava culture and tradition.
