Opposition from Like minded  Locals and NGO’s against the railway link to Coorg  is rising by the day.

Speaking to Deccan Herald the Former MP F M Khan has stated that:

The railway connectivity will harm environment. On the one hand forest will be destroyed and on the other hand, private estates will be destroyed. In this regard, through media, I am pressurizing the party and the Centre not to go for railway connectivity to Kodagu.”

He further added;

By allowing the construction of resorts amidst forest, concrete jungles have raised its head in forest. The destruction of environment is affecting the climate.

The Railway ministry is  planning a Mysore-Madikeri-Mangalore railway link. Since the announcement, some stiff opposition to the plan has been mooted by locals and envirmontalist’s fearing the destruction of Coorg’s Forests and natural heritage.

While the proposal is being opposed in Coorg, it has been welcomed by Suresh Kumar Jai, the leader of Mysore Industries Association. He opines that a  direct train connectivity to Madikeri and Mangalore will be good since the freight traffic will be high on this section. Environmentalists see otherwise.
