Mysuru: There is good news for Mysureans as Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam in Mandya District, which has not filled to the capacity since many years, is likely to be filled to the brim by touching the magic figure of 124.80 feet.
The hope is the prediction of 97 per cent rainfall by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) this monsoon.
There will be moderate to heavy rainfall in Kodagu and it is likely to rain between 20 – 60 mm in the District. Mysuru and Mandya will have moderate rainfall (15-30mm) while Chamarajanagar will have 25-30 mm in the next five days, said N. Nagendrababu, Research Associate, Organic Farm Research Station, Naganahalli, speaking to Star of Mysore, here this morning.
In the next five days there will be about 33 mm of rains overall in Mysuru District. The weather forecast for the next one week for the district is generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rains or thundershowers today.
On June 6 and 7 there will be light rain or drizzle with cloudy sky and on June 8 and 9 partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
Again on June 10 and 11, it is generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rains or thundershowers.
The IMD has ruled out cyclone in the State for present, said Narendrababu.
Monsoon intensifies: When compared to last year, Kodagu has experienced good rains with 119 mm rainfall so far. Even though it did not rain much from January to March, the rains later has brought joy to the people.
This year from January till now there is 433.95 mm rain, while at the same time last year it had rained 314.54 mm.
Though it had rained in May and June last year it had not rained later and hence the groundwater level had not gone up.
There is also an increase in the water level in KRS as it has risen from the dead storage level. The maximum level is 124.80 feet and it had gone down to 69.14 feet and because of the good rains, it has reached 76.45 feet and the inflow is 1,521 cusecs while the outflow is 304 cusecs.
This seven feet increase has brought joy to everyone including the farming community. If the rains continue, then KRS is likely to fill completely.
