The portrait of a Coorg(Kodava) Warrior who participated in quelling the April 1837 rebellion in Amara Sullia (present day Puttur & Sullia) region. This image was engraved in the Coorg Medal of 1837, awarded by the British(East India Company) Government to the Coorg(Kodava) leaders and their fighters who distinguished themselves in fighting the insurgents in Amara Sullia and successfully quelled the rebellion. In some internet sources the portrait is wrongly dated as 1839 or 1850. The engraving on the Coorg Medal of 1837 tries to depict the same warrior in a slightly different style of clothing, but in the same style of attack – charging forward with his Odikathi in the right hand, while holding his musket in the left hand.
