The Cauvery Sene staged a protest in front of the office of the District Registrar of Companies in Madikeri. The protest was organised against the alleged corrupt practises and high-handedness of Venkatagiri the District Registrar and his subordinate staff.
The Cauvery Sene took up the case of Udayanda Mandanna and Raja of Virajpet who approached them citing, corruption in the office of the District Registrar. Mandanna and Raja had visited the office of the Registrar situated opposite the Brahmin Kalyana Mantap in Madikeri, with the intention of registering their “Candle Wax Factory”, the stipulated cost of the exercise was Rs 1,100, but the staff at the Registrar’s office allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1,000 to complete the formalities.
Unwilling to pay a bribe Mandanna and Raja informed the Cauvery Sene who gheored the office of the Registrar on Wednesday the 8th of September. The Registrar, apprehending trouble, absconded from his office.
The members of the Cauvery Sene led by its convenor Ravi Chengappa continued a sit -in protest till the Registrar was forced to come back to his office.
The Cauvery sene issued a stern warning to the Registrar and his staff, who in turn apologised for the trouble caused and promised that hence forth no member of the public would be harassed at his office.
