Tuluva Kingdom and Kodava Inscription ?

Vittal from Google Maps Grab. Vittal is around 100 kms from Madikeri

There is an interesting article in The Hindu about the Vittala(Vittal) Kingdom in Mangalore and its descendants, the Heggade Family. The article provides information about the erstwhile Vittala Kingdom, its lineage, palace and customs. Something very interesting to note is that it has a Kodava connection.

To quote from The Hindu;

Covered in the muck of rain in the garden, the ornamental stone lamp-stand, may be one of the few remnants from this time. Mr. Nanda Verma says the inscription on it is in Kodava language, written in Tulu script. “The inscription details the rituals to perform during Deepavali,” he says, but is unable to offer more details.

What is a ornamental lamp with Kodava inscription doing in a Tuluva kingdom is something to ponder upon.
