Some interesting facts about Nalaknad Place.

  • The palace was built to commemorate Dodda Virarajendra’s victory against Tipu Sultan in 1792. Dodda Viraraja was the ally of the British in the war against Tippu.
  • The Last King Chikka Virarajendra (Grand Nephew of Dodda Virarajandra) had taken residence in the same palace while the Coorg-British war took place in 1834.
  • The restored mural in the palace depicts Dodda Virarajendra seated on a elephant and flanked by his Coorg Army.
