MLC M.C. Nanaiah inaugurated the Kodava Cultural Study Centre in Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College on Monday on the occasion, he said that the centre should give priority to all communities that spoke Kodava as their mother tongue and record traditional rituals and culture for posterity.
He stated that the current society is very caste-biased and called upon the people to put an end to it, as it has only had a negative impact on the society. He appealed to the people to read Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s book, ‘Untouchability’.
Dr. T.C. Shivashankarmurthy, Vice-Chancellor of Mangalore University President over the function. He said the centre will throw more light on history, tradition and culture of various communities in Kodagu that spoke Kodava as their mother tongue.
Registrar of the Mangalore University Dr. K. Chinnappa Gowda, convener of the Study Centre Dr. K.M. Lokesh, Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy member K. Palangappa, and college Principal Professor T.D. Thimmaiah, Dr. Ganapathi Gowda and others were present.
