N.U. Nachappa, President of the C.N.C., who addressed a gathering at the Gandhi Maidan in Madikeri on Wednesday to mark the 19th year of the eventful struggle for ‘Codavaland’, urged the Union Government and the State Government to consider the demands of the Codava’s, for which the organisation has been struggling for Nineteen years now.
Nachappa added. “We may be able to achieve success for Codava land in 100 days or 100 months or even 100 years. We are committed for it and dedicated towards it.”
Nachappa also expressed his hope that though Speaker K.G. Bopaiah, is a non-Codava, he will look into the issues raised by the CNC and will be able to put forth the demands before the Chief Minister and hammer out a solution.
Nachappa called upon the people of the community to learn from the Lingayat community who supported Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during his recent crisis.
Earlier approximately 10,000 Codavas and Codavathis participated and registered their solidarity with the Codavaland struggle. The gathering took out a procession in the main streets of Madikeri town. Most of the participants were clad in the traditional Codava attire. The President of CNC N.U Nachappa Codava inaugurated the function. Nandineravanda Nisha Codavathi did the invocation. Kalianda Prakash Codava welcomed the gathering.
The rally was addressed by Maneyapanda Thara Codavathi, Badumanda Leela Codavathi, Chendanda Jemsy Codava and others.
