Works on providing alternate 5km route between pilgrim centres Bhagamandala and Talacuvery via Thannimani at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.12 crore will be taken up soon, said former Speaker and Virajpet MLA K.G. Bopaiah, here yesterday.
Speaking to media persons after inspecting the spot of landslide near View Point on Bhagamandala-Talacuvery where huge boulders caved in and rolled on to the road forcing the authorities to close the road for traffic on Thursday, Bopaiah said that works on providing an alternative road had been taken up in association with National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) to reduce the load on the existing road.
The former Speaker also instructed PWD Executive Engineer Purushotham, who was present at the spot, to expedite the work of clearing the blocked Bhagamandala-Talacauvery road.
Bopaiah also recalled that the Bhagamandala-Talacauvery road had been developed three years ago at a cost of Rs. 50 lakh by constructing culverts at strategic points to avoid landslides.
PWD Asst. Engineer Sathysnarayana, Engineer Somashekar, President of Bhagamandala-Talacauvery Temple Managing Committee Manu Muthappa and others were present.
