The first phase of Census 2011 shall start on April 15 till June 1. A total of 291 villages and 5 urban centers in Coorg will be covered under the 2011 census.
Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwatha Narayana Gowda has appointed Joint Director of Agriculture K.R. Krishnaiah as the district nodal officer for the census.
As per the old census ( Census 2001 ) the Coorg population stood at 5,48,561, out of which 2,74,831 were men and 2,73,730 women.
