Ashwini Nachappa’s plan to start a athlectics academy in Coorg has met with a set-back.
The Karnataka Government has withdrawn the 2 Crore grant to the academy after certain local bodies and politicians from Coorg opposed the move accusing that Mrs.Nachappa is doing so for personal gains.
K.G.Bopaiah, the assembly speaker from Coorg had even “threathend to resign” from the Government if the grant was released.
Mr.Bopaiah and other local bodies had alleged that the general public would not be able to utilise the facilities and and the amount sanctioned should go to the district.
Mrs. Nachappa had clarified that she had already agreed to the condition from the Govt not to commercialize the turf and government tournament and practices would be allowed in her academy.
While Mr.Bopaiah claimed ignorance about the academy, Mrs.Nachappa has alleged that Mr.Bopaiah was well aware of the Sports Academy and her agreement with the Government.
Mr.Bopaiah is in favor of the synthetic turf to be installed at Ponnampet Junior College grounds.
