Newindpress | MADIKERI: The Karnataka Kodava Sahithya Academy will hold 11th state-level Kodava Mela in Surlabbi in association with Surlabbi Naad Kodava Okkuta. Addressing the media in Madikeri, Academy chairperson U Doti Pooviah said that the Academy has completed 12 years. This is the first time that themelais being conducted in a remote village.
The main aim of conducting the mela in Suralbbi is to make others know about the problems of the village which is yet to get a motorable road, she said. She said the convention will be held at GMP school ground in Surlabbi for two days. Various competitions will be conducted on the occasion. Ten new books will be published on the occasion. The fifth print of Pattole Palame, which is considered the Bible of the Kodavas, will be released on the occasion.
The convention will be inaugurated on December 24 by Somwapret MLA BA Jeevijaya. The President of Karnataka Nataka Academy Sreenivas G Kappanna, retired SP U Muddiah, A Pavin Ponnannaand and C Shan Kuttappa will be the chief guests.
The cultural programmes will be inaugurated by ZP president H S Ashok. The book release ceremony will be presided over by former president of Kodava Academy, BP Appanna and senior scribe, G Chidvilas will be the chief guest.
The cultural procession will be inaugurated by ex-MLA MP Appachu Ranjan. Chief guests will be Madikeri MLA KG Bopaiah and Ka tha Chikkanna.
The main function will be held on December 25 which will be attended by MLC C S Arun Machaiah, president of Akila Kodava Samaja, M C Monnappa, ex- president of Mysore Kodava Samaja, Dr A A Kuttappa and president of Mysore Kodava Samaja, P S Ganapathy.
The souvenir will be released by ex-president of the academy U M Pooviah. Doti Poovaiah added that eight eminent personalities will be felicitated on the occasion.
The president of Suralbbi Naad Kodava Okkuta, M S Thimmaiah, secretary C Dinesh, registrar of the academy V Tara Saraswathi, the members of the academy were present.
