Govt bans land conversion at Coorg for commercial purposes

Deccan Herald is reporting that the state government has imposed a ban of land conversion for commercial purposes.
More than 1000 applications are pending with the DC and at least 500 have been rejected by the DC.
The DC has taken into account the fragile ecosystem of Coorg, while taking the decision.

An RTI query by CWS had revealed that more than 2,800 acres of Agricultural and highland areas in Coorg were converted for residential layouts,resorts and commercial purposes
between 2005 to 2015.

Not only farms were being converted to commercial and other purposes, according to reports even forest lands are being converted to agricultural purposes.
