The issues dear to People of CoorgTuesday, August 3rd, 2010By: I K Anil, CLN M.C.N. has written to the CM on all pertaining matters, dear to the people of Coorg. He further, has stated that despite drawing the CM s attention on the floor of the house, nothing substantial has been done on these burning issues. I am sure, that though the comments are from the leader of the opposition in the council, they should be taken seriously by the ruling party, failing which, BJP can wish this bastion goodbye. Kodagu has been sympathetic towards the BJP despite the fact, that the BJP was not ruling at the centre nor the state, at that point in time. When I heard the CMs address at the State Journalist’s Meet, held at Madikeri in December 2009, I was convinced that he had a special place for the people of Kodagu. However, I presume, present Karnataka politics has kept him pre -occupied. The onus of presenting Kodagu’s case, of solving Jamma Bane, Man animal conflict, tree rights and roads rests solely with our esteemed elected representatives, who should be proactive in representing the burning issues, with the powers that be. The Kodagu police under the able guidance of SP Manjunath Annegeri has mobilised and activated the cadres to a nicety. The recent car jacking is one of the many crimes, his team has nipped in the bud. The results are there not only because of his ability, but the fact he has not been transferred within a year, like thirteen of his predecessors, who have not held office for more than six months. We do hope, the government according to their policy, will not transfer able officers before the stipulated three year period . The Tree preservation meet at Bangalore to amend the species of trees to be felled with out permission, is a step in the right direction. Farmers will benefit if more species are brought under this list. The environmentalists can be rest assured that the farmers will plant more of these species felled, as an insurance for their future. Today the trend is to plant only silver oaks, as this species can be felled without prior permission.
