Appachu Ranjan; the ex-MLC, Mr. S.G. Medappa, and the then Kodagu Deputy Commissioner, Mr. M.K. Baladevakrishna, and Conservator of Forests, Mr. G.A. Sudarshan for willfully violating provisions of the forest and wildlife acts and its orders pertaining to these laws within wildlife sanctuaries in the state. The story so far;
CM’s visit successfulSaturday, November 20th, 2010Promises action on pending issues Chief Minister (C.M) B.S. Yeddyurappa visited Kodagu on Monday to take part in his Governments ambitious ” Bhagya Lakshmi ” scheme. The CM landed at the helipad situated in the Mercara Down’s Golf Club in the morning. He latter arrived at Kushlanagar and laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Post graduation (P.G) centre of Mangalore University at Chikkaluvara near Kushlanagar. The P.G. centre, is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs twenty four crores. The CM informed that the state Govt. is providing one thousand acres of landat Challakere village near here for establishing a National level Science centre. Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya, District Minister C.H. Vijayashankar, MLA Appachu Ranjan, MLC M.C. Nanaiah, Vice-Chancellor Prof. T.C. Shivaskankara Murthy and others were present. Speaking after distributing sarees and Financial bonds to beneficiaries of the “Bhagya Lakshmi ” scheme the CM, assured MLA Appachu Ranjan that priority would be given to developmental works in Kodagu District. Yeddyurappa promised the large gathering to solve the vexed Jamma Bane issue soon. B.S. Yeddyurappa in his address announced that funds would be released for the Gandhi Memorial in Madikeri, and Rs one crore allocated for the General Thimmaiah Memorial would be released immediately. The CM also spoke of allocating funds for the intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the District Hospital in Madikeri and an aero bridge to connect the Women and Child wing and main building of the District hospital. Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan and CMC officials met Chief Minister Yeddyurappa yesterday seeking 1.5 crore for the Dasara celebrations this month. The CM has sanctioned 40 lakhs for Madikeri stating that he needs to allocated funds to other districts also for Dasara. The delegation included CMC president P.D.Ponappa. Mr. Ponappa said that a part of the funds allocated will be utilized for the repairs of roads in Madikeri which are in bad condition. Appachu Ranjan takes stock of Sunticoppa PHCFriday, October 1st, 2010MLA Appachu Ranjan visited the Sunticoppa Primary health centre (PHC) and the houses of the victims of the recent tragedy which claimed the lives of three persons. During his visit the MLA pointed out the lack of hygiene in the PHC premises and cautioned the doctors and the staff regarding, unsatisfactory services rendered to the patients. MLA Ranjan also spoke to the media and assured them that he will look into the anomalies in the supply of medicines. Assembly Speaker and Virajpet MLA K.G. Bopaiah alleged that certain vested interests were spreading rumours and attempting to tarnish his image. The speaker said that he and Madikeri MLA Ranjan Appachu were making an honest efforts to clear all the hurdles regarding the contentious jamma baane issue. He further added that certain organisations and individuals who could not do any thing positive regarding the jamma issue are creating confusion and panic among jamma baane land holders. The speaker was of the opinion that all interested parties should sit together and chalk out a responsible response to the problem. Mean while A.K. Rain festival showcases glimpses of Kodava culture and traditionFriday, August 13th, 2010Madikeri MLA Appachu Ranjan, ZP members, Kodava Sahithya Academy President and villagers from in and around Mukkodlu celebrated the Rain Festival( Male Namme) in the fields of H.S. Thimmaiah, by taking part in traditional activities like a slush race, tug of war and a dance competition set to traditional Kodava music. The guests took part in ploughing the field, transplanting paddy and various other activities connected to paddy sowing.

Appachu Ranjan said that a sum of Rs. 45 lakhs was released to the Kodava Sahithya Academy for its activities. He requested the Kodavas to join hands with the Academy in preserving the Kodava language, culture, and traditions. Boost for Tourism in CoorgFriday, July 2nd, 2010Tourism Secretary Jyothiramalingam has said that 11 tourism projects worth Rs. 2.59 crores are in progress in Kodagu. When he made the statement at a meeting with officials, MLC M.C. Nanaiah and MLA Appachu Ranjan said as Kodagu is rich in greenery, the tourism department should ensure that new projects do not affect the environment. The projects include Maletirike Hill at Virajpet, trekking at Nagarahole, view points at Kotebetta and a bridge at Hattihole. Jyothiramalingam urged the district administration to complete the works at the earliest. He said the tourism department lacked sufficient staff and that the vacant posts would soon be filled.
