BPCL wins Super Division Hockey League

BPCL ( Bharat Petroleum Control Corporation Limited ) has won the Super Division Hockey League which concluded yesterday. Army Red finished second and IOCL & SAI came third.

BPCL scored 21 points, Army Red 18 while  IOCL and SAI finished with 13.

Ashwini Nachappa presided over the closing ceremony as chief guest.

She took a dig at the politicians during her speech stating that ” There will be no scope for development of Sports if policitians are allowed to run sports organizations their way “.

Her statement came in the wake of Government withdrawing their support for her sports academy at Ponnampet.

She confirmed reports that her family Maneyapanda will donate Rs 5 Lakh to CHA ( Coorg Hockey Association ).

Kodagu will soon get sports package: Gill

(PTI) Madikeri:  Kodagu district in Karnataka will soon a get sports packages from the Centre, according to Union Sports and Youth service minister M S Gill.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Ashwin Pratishtana’ in Kals school started by national running champion Ashwini Nachappa and her husband Datha Karumbaiah in Gonikoppal.

He said it would make compulsory to build suitable play ground for the children in all the schools.

Gill said he had already discussed the matter with Union Human resources Development minister Kapil Sibal.

He the the department was planning to award sports scholarships and give additional five marks to talented sports persons seeking jobs.

Rs 678 core will be spent for the Commonwealth games to be held in New Delhi to be held during October and Rs 300 crore will be spent for extra security measure, he said.

Super Division Hockey League kick starts at Madikeri

For the first time, the Super Division Hockey League is being played in Coorg. The matches will be played  on the synthetic turf at the SAI ground at Madikeri. The league was inaugurated by MLC Nanaiah yesterday.

A total of 14 teams from IOCL, BPCL, Fortis, Army XI Red, Canara Bank, KSP, Army XI Green, MEG, ASC, IAF, Cntral Excise, HAL, SAI and MLI shall participated in the tournament.

Government Cancels 2 Crore Grant to Ashwini Nachappa’s sports academy

Ashwini Nachappa’s plan to start a athlectics academy in Coorg has met a set-back.
The Karnataka Government has withdrawn the 2 Crore grant to the academy after certain local bodies and politicians
from Coorg opposed the move accusing that Mrs.Nachappa is doing so for personal gains.
K.G.Bopaiah, the assembly speaker from Coorg had even “threathend to resign” from the Government if the grant was released.
while Mr.Bopaiah claimed ignorance about the academy, Mrs.Nachappa has alleged that Mr.Bopaiah was well aware of her
dealings with the Government.

Mr.Bopaiah and other local bodies had alleged that the general public would not be able to utilise the facilities and and the amount sanctioned should go to the district.

Mrs. Nachappa had clarified that she had already agreed to the condition from the Govt not to commercialize the turf and government tournament and practices would be allowed in her academy.

While Mr.Bopaiah claimed ignorance about the academy, Mrs.Nachappa has alleged that Mr.Bopaiah was well aware of the Sports Academy and  her agreement with the Government.

Mr.Bopaiah is in favor of the synthetic turf to be installed at Ponnampet Junior College grounds.
