With this short format game, similar to the 20-20 cricket format, the organisers are hoping to get more youngsters involved. For the first tournament, 40 Kodava families and 40 sanghas have registered their teams. In an attempt to recreate the nostalgia of earlier times, the club wants to take hockey to every school, college and IT-company of the state. “We want every school child to carry a hockey stick like it was earlier in our childhood days. Hockey needs to get back its due credit,” says Kambeyanda Mohan, one of the organisers.

Appachu told SportStar;

“Most riders were surprised to see such high standards from India. Many of them came to Major Ahluwalia for tips on technique and other aspects, and even enquired about coming to India for training,”.

Though the Kaliyanda team were awarded 11 penalty corners, they were able to convert only 1.

The best goal keeper award was won by Kandanda Bose Acchaiah, best defender by Machamada Gautham Ganapathy, best striker by Palanganda Prajwal, Palanganda Kalappa, best centre of player by Mandepanda Kripa and Kaliyanda Kiran.

Thithimada Prajwal Bopaiah won best youth player, Mandeda Girish Kaverappa won best senior player, Kokanda Krithika won best woman player and Ainanda Akash Poovanna won the best student player award on the occasion.

The next edition will be hosted by Madanda clan in 2013.

We are a team of 30 members from 15 different families of Chickpet in Virajpet. We call ourselves the Coorg Challengers Chickpet Association (CCCA). The families’ motive is to revive interest in hockey among Bangaloreans and donate the profit from these tournaments to orphanages and blind schools. Today, we are what we are because of hockey and we want to give back to the sport by instilling that spirit in as many youngsters as we can.

Further adding that;

Last year, 24 teams participated and the profits were handed over to Thejaswi Seva Trust in Kumaraswamy Layout and Field Marshal Cariappa Hockey Trust in Virajpet to nurture potential hockey-players.

The sixth edition of the “Sakhamuri Cup Golf Championship” which was conducted by Mercara Downs Golf Club (M.D.G.C.), concluded successfully on Sunday the 24th October 2010. Seventy five Golfers from Bangalore and Kodagu participated in this popular tournament. On 23rd October 2010 M.D.G.C. played against the renowned Pinseekers from Bangalore, at the Tata Coffee Golf Course, Pollibetta. M.D.G.C. emerged victorious in a closely contested duel. At the presentation ceremony, Nagarjun Sakhamuri, addressed the gathering and promised to take the tournament to even greater heights. I.K. Anil Captain of M.D.G.C welcomed the gathering. Sakhamuri brothers Prashant and Nagarjun and Captain of the Pinseekers Hari Achanta gave away the prizes. Hon Sec. of M.D.G.C. AL.RM. Nagappan rendered the vote of thanks.

Speaking after inugurating the slush fest  at Kaggodlu near Madikeri on Saturday, organised jointly by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Youth Service and Sports Department, Youth Hostel Association of India, Youth Organisations Federation,  he further added that the Government has released additional funds to encourage sports in the district.

A sum of 10 lakhs has been released for the development of an outdoor, and indoor stadium, synthetic athletic track at Koodige, synthetic track at Ponnampet and for the construction of a Yuva Bhavan.
