Not Robin Uthappa, there is a new Kid on the Block and he goes by the name Uthappa SK. The 20 year old SAI player was adjudged the best player in the Senior Nationals that concluded recently.
Uthappa S K after winning the Junior Nationals in Pune in 2010.
A B Subbaiah’s dream team reachead the finals of the Senior National after a long haitus. The Last time Karnataka played in the finals was in 1969. Karantaka lost to Haryana in the finals for 2 – 1, but with bagging the best player award and V R Raghunath another Coorg lad being the top scorer in the tournament, the stars are shinning well. Amar Aiyamma was the captain. Bharat Chetri proved that he is one of the top goal keepers in the Country.
Whether Uthappa will make it to the national side is anyone’s wildest guess, i would say. V R Raghunath is trying to get back to the team but the call never seems to come from the National side. The only Coorg lad in the team is Arjun Halappa.
Why haven’t the IHF included Len Aiyappa. He is the best drag-flicker available in the county at the moment. They didn’t even bother to call him for the camp despite his exploits in the last three PHL tournaments.
To that the then IHF Secretary K Jothikumaran said “that since all the three drag flickers, Sandeep Singh, Didar Singh and Raghunath, have performed well in the PHL, there was no point in having one more drag flicker in the side.”
Even after Jotikumaran’s exit Len never got a call back.
But even today Len is everywhere in the domestic circuit and still scoring hat-tricks and still winning for his team. He has been quite positive and his love for the game keeps him going.
The last time I found him online, he was imparting drag flick lessons to the Italians.
For that matter even Amar Aiyamma has been ignored by the National Selectors. Unlike Cricket, in Indian Hockey there is no statistics maintained about games and individual player and thus it makes it quite easy for the selectors to pick and choose whomsoever they want in the national side without worrying much about the scrutiny from others.
Uthappa is young and he has a long way to go. My advice is – just love hockey, play well. Forget whether you get into the national side or not. Whether you stay there for long or not. Enjoy the game kid.
Last time it was 2 Tigers on Prowl near Tadiandamol, come 11th of November and the head bangers will be on the prowl there. This one made me giggle to myself. Kishor wrote about Storm Festival. Seems Storm Festival is something of a woodstock kind of festival for hard rock music lovers. And this time it is being hosted in India and that too in Coorg, 1750 meters above on Tandiandamol.
I was wondering how is it possible for anyone to have such an event in a reserve forest? Doesn’t Tadiandamol and the area surrounding it comes under Pushpagiri or Brahmagiri Wildlife Sactuary ?
Secondly, the area has herds of elephant. And there have been instances in the past when trekkers had to leave their camps and run for cover. What about security ?
wedding of a Kodava bride with a Non-Kodava Groom. They had said that they had no issue with a Kodava marraing a non-kodava, but
they should refrain from doing so under Kodava customs. In stark similarity the same view is of the members of the organisation which
raided the wedding of the Mucckatira Groom at the Kodava Samaj, Bangalore.
The members of the present organisatios went a step ahead and even dictated the further proceedings of the marraige.
Interesting to note is that- there seems to be no security at Kodava Samaj as this is the second time people have gate crashed a wedding and
created in a scene there.
Groom and Bride forced to abandon Kodava Marraige Ceremonies. Asked to abandon the mantap and shift to the room for seeking blessings from the Guests.
According to the news report in Shakthi Daily, a marriage between a Kodava & a non-Kodava was disrupted at Kodava Samaja at Vasanthnagar in Bangalore. This time at the receiving end was the the Mukkatira Family. The members of Kodavame & Nellaki stormed the wedding hall and stopped the customary proceedings of the marriage.
The Modus Operandi of these organisations is quite interesting. They seem to receive first hand information of the marriage that is going to happen between a Kodava & a non-Kodava at Kodava Samaja and barge in at the very moment when the marriage is taking place at Kodava Samaja.
The last time an organisation calling itself Nanga Kodava had barged into a wedding and disrupted the wedding of a Kodava bride with a Non-Kodava Groom. They had said that “they had no issue with a Kodava marrying a non-Kodava, but they should refrain from doing so under Kodava customs”. In a stark similarity the same view is of the members of the organisations which raided the wedding of the Mukkatira Family at the Kodava Samaj, Bangalore.
The members of these organisations went a step ahead and even dictated the further proceedings of the marriage.
To quote from Shakthi Daily;
They stopped the ‘Kodava valga’ being played and other rituals like ‘Ganga Pooja’. The couple were made to sit inside the room, instead of the ‘mantap’ to receive blessings.
Interesting to note is that there seems to be no security at Kodava Samaj and this is the second time people have gate crashed a wedding at Kodava Samaja and created a scene in a private function. And seems the Kodava Samaja is not bothered to file a police complaint in this regard.
Update: Seems the news being spread about what really happened is doubtful. While Kodavame and their supporters claim that there were able to stop the wedding the ceremonies, The Groom’s Sister has claimed that they were booted out of the hall and they(Muccatira Family) carried on with all the ceremonies without any issue. If so, then Kodavame and their ilk is on a propaganda war to suit themselves, irrespective of the fact being they got shooed and booed away from the wedding and they “were not able to stop the wedding” or “coerce the Muccatira family into backing off from the ceremonies”. But they went on spreading rumors about the “ceremonies being stopped” and made everyone(mostly their target market – The Kodavas) feel that they won the day and have achieved something great. Seems Shakthi Daily, Brahmagiri , Poomale, etc fell for their bait and published the wrong news. In turn, starting a passionate debate on the back of a incident,”Which never took place”.
Has observed that granting the lease in a forest area was motivated and intentional. Has further warned the Govt to cancel all such licences issued for mining in forest areas, before the disposal of the petition.
The petitioner, H C Prabhu is a miner from Coorg, who was issued a licence for stone quarrying at Seege Hosur area in Kodagu district and his licence was later cancelled as the area fell under Reserve Forest.
First, it was overlapping in mining lease areas; now it’s allowing mining in forest areas. How can you allow it in the first place and then cancel it later? When hafta and maheena (monthly bribe) stops, you start passing such orders. This is clearly extraneous, intentional and motivated action. What kind of department is this? Everything you are doing is from back door only. The department of mines and geology has become PWD. We want all these to stop at once, not one by one like this.
The HC wants the Govt to bring out a single order cancelling all the leases across the State rather than proceeding on a case by case basis and has directed the State to seek instructions to cancel the leases and submit an action taken report in four weeks’ time, before the disposal of the current petition.
According the report in The Hindu, CM Yeddyurappa, during his recent visit to Kodagu, seems to have opined that Bane land is encroached land. In short, if he ever meant that, he means that “Bane land is Goverment Property”. The news report further reads that
Some persons inimical to the interests of Kodagu had fed Mr. Yeddyurappa with wrong information on Bane lands.
If that is so, then… there are politicians or bureaucrats in the Karnataka Goverment who want to deprive the Kodava people and other indigenous communities in Kodagu over their rights to the bane lands.
Looking around, during my visits to Coorg made me feel that the district is increasing in numbers, but the census shows something quite ulta.
Dhanya Matsa of Express feels that the low growth rate is due to ageing population in Kodagu. She maybe right. I notice that most of the youth from Kodagu are migrating to bigger cities for better jobs and livelihood.
A Cookery year in Coorg is a unique Cookbook and Calendar that showcases the unique, diverse and mouthwatering Coorg food and recipes. The Calendar has a collection of recipes from the traditional fare of the Kodava people. Presented in the innovative format of a Calendar with vivid images and easy to follow recipe instructions for all levels of culinary expertise!
Ok..before they throw the muck on me saying that I am trying to not defend them because my sister is married to a Kannadiga ( i just ended up saying – she did).,Who cares anyways, we had 2 weddings, 1 Kannadiga way and the other a Kodava wedding and he(my bava) was dressed in the “Kodava attire” totally…from the Kuppya to the peechekathi- to the Odikathi- to the Kodava Jewelery. And both the families were satisfied and both the cultures were respected.
Thank god(heavens too) – this ruckus did not happen in my sister’s wedding. If this the way things are going to be from now onwards, then i would also like to lodge my protest too. And yes, I AM A KODAVA TOO.
Please except me…You can’t????. Then keep the placards aside and let the debate start.
Update: While the DNA Report says the members were of ” Kodava Samaja Youth Wing”. It seems they also go by the name of ”Nanga Kodava”.
Be it politically or development wise….Coorg getting a raw deal by the State Govt every time has been a buzz word in Coorg since long. Tomorrow will be another Cabinet expansion of the BJP Govt in Karnataka. And our 3 Time MLA and loyal man of BJP in Coorg-Appachu Ranjan and his followers should be waiting with baited breath.
During the recent Defection Crisis…Appachu once again got a chance to prove that he is one of the most loyal member of BJP and cannot be bought over with loads of cash or a ‘promise’ of ministerial berth which has been denied to him time and again by the BJP. Kumaraswamy for his overtures got a ‘no’ plus the CD scam.
