The Twenty fifth King Fisher Golf tournament which was played over three days in Coorg on three different courses, concluded at the Mercara Down’s Golf Course in Madikeri.  Darshan  from Chennai won the prestigious open beating I.K. Ponappa.

The glittering awards ceremony and dinner  was held at the  Club Mahindra Holiday Resorts, Galeebeedu. The captain of M.D.G.C I.K.Anil welcomed the gathering and thanked U.B Group for sponsoring the event for twenty four years . He also  said this is the only tournament in Asia where in you play three golf courses to  arrive at the final result. The Captain further thanked Tata Coffee for all support over the past twenty five years. He also thanked Belur Club and CGL for their continued support. Present on the dais were Lt. Gen. B.C. Nanda, Dr. Prem Punja. D.A. Uthappa, Vikas Sayal,  representative. of  UB, S. Appadorai  and Hon. Sec. M.D.G.C. AL.RM. Nagappan was the master of ceremonies.

Brave heart’s statue to be unveiled on Dec. 9

Addressing a press meet in Madikeri, Cauvery Sena District convener, Ravi Changappa informed that  the statue of  martyr Major Mangerira Chinnappa Muthanna will be unveiled on December 9th in front of Cauvery Kalakshethra (Town Hall) in Madikeri.

Lt.General (retd) C.N. Somanna will unveil the statue.

The circle opposite the  Town Hall has already been named after the “Shaurya Chakra” awardee. Air Marshal (retd) K.C. Cariappa and Brigadier (retd) K.A. Muthanna will be the Chief guests. The statue is being erected at  a cost of Rs. eight lakhs. Sculptor Manjunath Acharya of Beetikatte in Somwarpet had sculpted the statue.

CNC celebrates 19th as “National Day”

N.U. Nachappa, President of the C.N.C., who addressed a gathering at the Gandhi Maidan in Madikeri on Wednesday to mark the 19th year of the eventful struggle for ‘Codavaland’, urged the Union Government and the State Government to consider the demands of the  Codava’s, for which the organisation has been struggling for Nineteen years now.

Nachappa added. “We may be able to achieve success for Codava land in 100 days or 100 months or even 100 years. We are committed for it and dedicated towards it.”

Nachappa also expressed his hope that though Speaker K.G. Bopaiah, is a non-Codava,  he will look into the issues raised by the CNC and will be able to put forth the demands before the Chief Minister and hammer  out a solution.

Nachappa called upon the people of the community to learn from the Lingayat community who supported Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during his recent crisis.

Earlier approximately 10,000 Codavas and Codavathis participated and registered their solidarity with the Codavaland struggle. The gathering took out a procession in the main streets of Madikeri town. Most of the participants were clad in  the traditional Codava attire. The President of CNC N.U Nachappa Codava inaugurated the function. Nandineravanda Nisha Codavathi did the invocation. Kalianda Prakash Codava welcomed the gathering.

The rally was addressed by Maneyapanda Thara Codavathi, Badumanda Leela Codavathi, Chendanda Jemsy Codava and others.

Kodagu Cauvery Marathon postponed

Titto S. Biddapa, Trustee Kodagu Cauvery Marathon Trust informed that “the annual Marathon, Road Race sponsored by Kodagu Cauvery Marathon Trust and organized by Cauvery Junior College, Bhagamandala, usually conducted in November, will not be held in 2010, as Cauvery Junior College will be organizing their Golden celebrations during first week of December.

Crucifix damaged – suspect in police custody

Miscreants entered the Christian cemetery and allegedly  damaged the Crucifix at Athur in Gonikoppal, late on Saturday night.

Gonicoppal Police have arrested one Anand, a resident of Hosalli, near here on Sunday  in this regard. Anand  who is allegedly mentally unstable  is suspected of being involved in damaging the statue at Polibetta Poojamma Temple as well.

The incident came to light when the  faithful visited the cemetery after the  Sunday morning mass .

Superintendent of Police (S.P) Manjunath Annigeri and other officers  visited the spot.

Rotarians Conduct dental camp

The Rotary Club of Gonikoppal,  organised a dental camp for students and public at the  Govt Primary health centre Kutta.

Dr K.P.Chinappa with committee members C. Immie Uthappa. Kolera Jamuna, M.K.Dheena and P.B.Poonacha arrived at the hospital and saw to the arrangements.

The Doctors arrived from Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences at 9 a.m. and gave a brief talk about dental care and hygiene to the students.

Dr Amit MDS who has specialised in Community Dentistry supervised the dental check up by the dentists who were in their final year of their course in the college.

The college has a Trust under the name ‘Anuradh’ which does social services in rural areas. The afternoon lunch for the Doctors was arranged by Ladies Association Badaga in choorikad.

All the patients, who attended the camp, were given a free Toothpaste and Toothbrush  by Colgate.

District Minister claims release of funds

In a press release issued by  the District in Charge and Forest Minister C.H. Vijayashankar it was stated that  Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa  had directed the Finance Department to release Rs. 22.25 crores to take up various development works in Kodagu.

The Press release further  stated that of the total amount, Rs. one  crores will be spent on General Thimmaiah’s  memorial,  Rs. ten crores on road repair, Rs. five crores  for Synthetic Turf  at Ponnampet, Rs. twenty five lakhs for aero-bridge, between the district hospital and women and Children Hospital, Rs. one crore for the intensive care unit in the district hospital and Rs. five crores for the second phase development works.

B.V.B.Kodagu Vidyalaya runner’s up at C.B.S.E. Jr. National’s

The hockey team of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kodagu Vidyalaya participated in the South Zone Hockey Tournament organized by the C.B.S.E. Board in the under 14 category at Chennai and emerged winners in the South Zone category and were selected to participate in the National Level Hockey Tournament held at Rampur, U.P from 7th to 11th Nov 2010. Nanjesh Gowda M.R was adjudged player of the tournament. In the National tournament they emerged runners up to Springdale Amritsar, defeating ten teams, from all four zones.

Progressive Farmer

Cheppudira Prathvi Poonacha  of Vasanth Sai Estate, Kanoor Village has won the ‘Progressive  farmer award’ for Codagu district for the year 2010.

The award was given on the basis of a survey conducted by the Departments of Agriculture and Horticulture, Govt of Karnataka.

The award was given on 13th November, at the Krishi Mela (farmer’s fair) conducted by the University of Agriculture  Bangalore. The prizes were given away by the Minister for Power Shoba Karanladje.
